Canonteign Falls

Canonteign falls is England's highest waterfall, descending 220ft . It was about a 30 minute walk to the top. The climb was a little steep in places but the setting is so tranquil with gorges and trees and the view at the top was spectacular. Puck & Molly ran around in the woodlands although sometimes we had to carry Molly as it was a little steep and as she has injured knee and has to take it easy.
After the walk down we enjoyed sandwiches on the terrace.

In the evening we went for dinner at a country pub Ruggeslstone Inn set in the Dartmoor National Park.

Powderham Castle

Powderham Castle is located in a unique setting just outside Exeter. The castle is set in the middle of a deer park. There are no dogs allowed so Manon & I headed back to Lilac Cottage along the coastline roads which  are steep and winding and narrow. The views are well worth the drive.

Dennis, Sander, Harley, Emma & Mats spent the afternoon at the castle. They walked around the castle and were entertained with the owl and eagle show.

BBQ

I think back over the last couple of days of what we have been doing. Tuesday we wanted to have a BBQ and we needed groceries so we had to go to the supermarket ASDA where we had a funny experience. Manon Dennis, Mats, Emma and I went  grocery shopping in a big supermarket.  We had the experience of using the self service (fast checkout). There was nothing fast about it. it seemed to take forever,  about a half an hour, the man on duty had to keep coming back to help us. He told me he was on duty till 12 midnight and  I had to laugh and said I will never do this again with a big shop. When I paid the digital computer it said  "thank you for using the fast checkout.". There was a man behind me with 1 bottle of coke. I turned to him and said if you only know how long I have been here and I just started laughing, I  could not stop laughing all the way to the car. It was so crazy. I will never do it again with grocery shopping. We had a lovely BBQ and Mats & Emma made a lovely dessert.

Wednesday the weather was a little overcast so we drove to Exeter a historical city in Devon. We took a boat trip along the Exeter canal and stopped for lunch at The double Locks Inn.

Wild Horses

Sunday morning the boys go off to play golf. Manon, Emma and I have a relaxing day by the pool. In the late afternoon we sat on the table with our information books of the local area and Devon discussing where we will make our journey. We decide to head to a place called Princetown, so off we go heading along the country roads which are one way, the roads are so narrow that if another car comes along you have to reverse back or the car coming from the other direction  have to reverse back till you find an opening on the side of the road so you can pass.

The Kids enjoyed the view from the top
The horse wanted to get in the car, unfortunately Manon is allergic to horses
The horse wanted to order an ice cream. Dennis had to wait his turn

The country side along the way is breathtaking.  While driving in the Dartmoor National Park we come across wild horses along the side of the road by Haytor Mountain. They are so tame. We walked to the top of the mountain. Sander, Dennis, Harley, Emma & Mats climbed the big rock while Manon & I stayed and enjoyed the scenery with Puck & Molly. I got talking to a local who told us that we were having a good summer. Last year it was very wet. Luck us.

There is an Ice cream refreshment van where the horses stand around waiting to see what they can get to eat. The kids had ice cream and as we headed back to the car the horses followed us they did not want us to leave!  One of the horses took a liking to Dennis's car and started to bite on it. Dennis was not very happy and Molly was going crazy as she does not like horses at all.

We went on to drive to Princetown along the way the wild life, the horses cows, goats & sheep run across the road as if is part of there territory. We had a sheep that ran along side the car as we were driving, and a cow in front of Sander's car, well it is the country so strange to see.

Enjoying the summer evening
We stopped at Two Bridges Hotel which is in an  idyllic location. The dogs ran around as we enjoyed refreshments in the garden.

After a lovely afternoon exploring Dartmoor we went back to Lilac Cottage  had a BBQ and enjoyed the summer evening.

Teignmouth & Torquay

We spent the day by the pool swimming and enjoying the sunshine. Molly only wants to play with her ball and kept dropping the ball in the pool and that was not allowed. If no one would throws the ball Molly would bark and not stop. I jumped in the pool and Molly followed me and lost her balance on the edge of the pool and fell in, it was funny to see. I had to put her on the line so that she would relax. Puck follows Molly wherever Molly goes. They are the best of friends.

In the late afternoon we drove  to Teignmouth an historic port with a old victorian pier. The georgian buildings in the area gives it a unique style of its own. Swimming on the beach was not possible as the tide was high and the water was splashing up against the brick wall so hard. Mats tried to see high the water would come up.

The Big Wheel
We then drove onto to Torquay, a seaside harbour with many beautiful boats and attractions . The Big wheel was a great way to see the amazing views of the sea and harbour. On the boulevard we enjoyed watching the people passing by while eating dinner.
In the Big wheel enjoying the views.
